Manuscript Services

So you've done all the hard work and you've written a book. First of all, congratulations! All of us at The Writers' Company know what an achievement that is.

Reading your manuscript is a privilege we don't take lightly. As writers, we understand how important your work is to you and will assess your work with both empathy and honesty. We tailor feedback for the writer you are, your desires for your manuscript, and your future writing path.  Our manuscript assessment acts as a dialogue: the writing stays in your control as we give you choices as to how to improve and useful tools and techniques for you to use in the future.

Because this is such a tailored service, we ask you to contact us first with a few details of what you are looking for. Although we have a wide range of experts specialising in many genres, we don't take everyone on - only those we believe will benefit from our expertise. Once you have handed in your manuscript, we are quick to find an assessor and begin working. We deliver when we say we will and often before. For some of our clients, there is an option of further one-to-ones or suggestions about which courses to take. We will let you know if you think we can further help in this way.

Below are our prices. Please get in touch with any questions. We can't wait to hear from you.

'Thank you for all your knowledge and enthusiasm. It's been such a delight learning how to dismantle and rebuild.'

Below are the prices for a manuscript assessment:

Up to 15,000 words (opening extract/full length)    £200
Up to 30,000 words (opening extract/full length)    £350
Up to 60,000 words (full manuscript)    £400
Manuscripts longer than 60,000 words    £400 + £5 for every 1,000 words thereafter.

For this you will get:

  • a full breakdown of areas of improvement which will focus on plot, character, point of view, settings and style. This will take the form of a report which can be anything from 5 to 20 pages long.

  • suggestions about style, possible cuts, character motivations etc in the form of inline comments which you can accept or reject

  • basic editing (i.e. spelling and grammar) in the form of inline comments which you can accept or reject. N.B. This is not a copywriting service but a way of showing you your mistakes. We therefore do not guarantee to pick up all grammatic and spelling mistakes but will point them out where possible and when they detract from the story.

Because this is a bespoke service, we would very much like to talk to you before you send your work to us. Please contact us at contact@thewriterscompany.co.uk.
